I had a chance to look beyond Calgary for bathroom design inspiration on a recent trip to Chicago. Many were beautiful rooms with roots in the 1920s that incorporate modern conveniences. Merchandise Mart in Chicago: There is no comparable design centre in Calgary, or probably anywhere else in North America. It was once the largest commercial office building in the United States and for many years it was a dedicated space for designers to source products for their clients. The main floor is open to the public and several floors above are open to the trade only. Besides amazing furniture,...

Given my love for saturated colour, what better place to find interior design inspiration than in Marrakech?  I packed light intending to do some shopping in Morocco. Not light enough. We still ended up bringing home an extra bag, jammed carry-ons and luggage that pushed the limits of the weight allowances. There was some natural light, but it was being mostly lost and there were a few missing opportunities for storage that needed...

The dining room can be a space that adds drama to your home. It should be a welcoming and utilitarian space, but also exciting and a place that you are proud to invite guests into. Most homes have more than one space dedicated to eating and the formal dining room is often just that; formal. By keeping a few design principals in mind, you can create a space that has dramatic flare for entertaining friends, but is also family friendly and usable day to day. Here are some of my best tips for creating a special space for family and...

Home Renovation - I can't believe it's the same space

A bathroom renovation I recently completed work on has transformed the space leaving it functional and beautiful.  First impressions of this small mainfloor bathroom was that is was depressing, awkward and dark. My client was struggling with the added difficulty of helping her daughter with disabilities to get in and out of a cramped tub to shower. We needed to find more space and greatly improve the functionality while making the only bathroom on the main floor feel like a place one could go to relax.  First, we found more space by bumping into the adjacent room by a few...
